Det. Martin serves in the capacity of Pennsylvania Private Detective as a sole-proprietor and licensee. He is certified, licensed and bonded by the Court of Common Pleas, 17th Judicial District, Union County Branch.

He is the holder of Badge #01. Det. Martin is contracted by the Union County Public Defender's Office where he serves as the Lead Criminal Defense Detective on criminal cases alleged to have occurred in Union County - Central Pennsylvania. Det. Martin also works as a Court-Appointed Detective (CTAD) in the capacity of Criminal Defense Investigator by the Court of Common Pleas of Snyder County, Northumberland & Lycoming County. Additionally, Det. Martin works as a Federal Contractor on Federal CJA Criminal Cases from the United States District Court, Middle District of Pennsylvania where he serves in the capacity of Criminal Investigator/Expert. In addition to his Govenment Contracts, Det. Martin is retained by Law Firms, Insurance Carriers and private persons seeking assistance during criminal and/or civil investigations.

Det. Martin is bound to rigid codes of conduct dictated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and enforced by District Attorney's Office of the Commonwealth in compliance with the Pennsylvania Private Detective Act of 1953 as amended in 22 P.S § 11 et. Seq.

Det. Max Martin's primary role is to defend the rights afforded by the United States Constitution. The 4th, 5th, 6th, and 14th Amendments demand that protections be afforded to the accused and the rules of due process enforced. Det. Martin accepts responsibility for educating himself and honing his skills to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Our rights as American citizens come under attack every day. The forces and agents of injustice, incompetence, and apathy remain constant within the American Justice System. The professional Criminal Defense Detective/Investigator is the first line of defense. We must balance the scales of justice as "Impartial & Objective Advocates of the Truth!" Every American's right to Liberty and Justice demands no less.


Det. Martin's Biography:

Det. Martin has been a licensed investigator since 2011. Prior to becoming a Criminal Defense Detective, Det. Martin served the Newark NJ Police Department as a Sworn Law Enforcement Deputy Chief Chaplain for seven years. During his tenure with the Police Department, Det. Martin was trained and assigned to work with the Homicide Squad Unit. During one of his cases, he was interviewed and featured by the NJ StarLedger Newspaper during a murder case involving a man who stabbed his wife to death in front of their three year old daughter. Both the victim and the assassin were in the United States illegally with the exception of their daughter who had been born in America.

The couple had no family members in the United States, and the child was taken by Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) and given to temporary foster care. Det. Martin worked alongside the United States Consulate in Sao Paulo, Brazil to provide the victim's father with a U.S Visa to come to the United States and gain custody of his granddaughter. This assignment involved interacting with Essex County Prosecutor's Office, DYFS, U.S State Department, Essex County Superior Court, United Airlines and the Newark Police Homicide Squad. After about one year, grandfather gained permanent and full custody of his granddaughter and to this date he lives with his grandaughter in Brazil.

In another case, Det. Martin was able to locate a family member from Portugal whose brother had committed suicide in Newark and whose body had been in the medical examiner's office for over 30 days. On another case, he assisted the NPD Homicide Squad in locating a family member of a man who was thrown in the Passaic River by the Jackson Street Bridge and had not been identified for over 10 days. On yet another case, Det. Martin assisted an Ecuadorian woman whose husband was shot and killed on Ferry Street in Newark NJ through the whole trial process with translation assistance and guidance as well as assistance in interacting with the various agencies involved in her case. Two suspects were arrested and charged with the murder of her husband.

Some key accomplishments with the Newark Police Department:

- Det. Martin was awarded a Newark Police Commendation in 2011 at the City’s Municipal Council Chambers for the inception of the Integrated Chaplain Patrol Program (ICP), which contributed to the deterrence of crime in many areas of the City of Newark, bringing peace and reconciliation to many communities within the most dangerous areas of Newark.

- The recipient of a Letter of Recognition from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in support of efforts made for community cohesiveness.

- Chosen to represent the Newark Police Department during the 911 10th Anniversary Ceremony held at Ground Zero in New York.

- The recipient of a Letter of Recognition from a U.S Navy Commanding Officer for the coordination and instruction of a Dignitary Protection training held at the U.S Naval Weapons Station Earl in Colts Neck, NJ.

As a Criminal Defense Investigator, Det. Martin, has worked on multiple murder cases for both the County Government and the Federal Government. He has also successfully led and solved various Post-Conviction-Relief Investigations (PCRA Cases) for inmates currently being held for murder and other charges on life-sentences. He has submitted numerous investigative reports and work-products to the Courts and testified on various trials as an expert witness. Criminal Defense Investigations is Det. Martin's primary area of work. He has worked in over 38 homicide cases in his career. He has also successfully solved complex missing person cases, working side-by-side with Law Enforcement Agencies and handled multiple cases of international matters, some of which have been featured in Newspapers and TV channels, such as: NBC, CBS, The StarLedger, Luso-Americano and The Brazilian Press.

Det. Martin has vast experience in the area of surveillance investigations with over five thousand hours of documented surveillance and undercover experience accumulated through the course of over a decade.

Besides being a certified graduate of the 8-month Newark Police Department Chaplaincy Academy, Det. Martin is also a graduate of the SWAT Tactical Training School administered by the Hays County SWAT and the Dallas SWAT in connection with the TTPOA – Texas Tactical Police Officer’s Association with over 220 hours of training. He is certified in numerous courses taught by ALLERT – Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training recognized by the Texas State University. Mr. Martin has also been trained by the FBI Newark Field Office in the areas of Human Trafficking, Prostitution Rings and Crimes Against Children. He is certified on Advanced Dignitary Protection with over 100hrs of training held at the U.S Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck NJ. Det. Martin is certified and registered as a Security Officer by the NJ State Police under the Security Officer Registration Act (SORA). He can also provide security services and dignitary protection services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Licensed Private Detective.

Det. Martin is an instructor and educator in the areas of Cryptography Applied to Investigations and Dignitary Protection Missions; forensic acquisition, preservation, integrity and signature verification of digital evidence with Unix, Linux and GNU cryptographic tools, the use of PIV-compliant smart cards and FIPS 140-2 Level III hardware devices within the realm of investigations via PKCS#11 & PKCS#15 Cryptographic Standards, following the implementation of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) for systems authentication; Advanced Methods and Techniques in Forensic Photography; Surveillance and Undercover Operations. He teaches members of Law Enforcement, Military and legal professionals from the private sector, including attorneys and judges.

Det. Martin is a former computer programmer, a UNIX and Linux user since 1999. Today he is more like a Code Tinkerer, using shell scripting language and the compiling language "C" for the automation of his work. He has been using the Qubes Operating System based on the bare-metal Type-1 Hypervisor XEN in his main workstation since 2015. He also uses OpenBSD everyday in his detective workstation during all his cryptographic operations and during server maintenance/administration. He also uses TAILS, Whonix & Kali Linux during special assignments. He serves as a Cyber Infrastructure Security Architect and Consultant for legal professionals and small-sized companies. He is an advocate for free-software (free as in "freedom/livre"), he believes that free-software is the best safeguard against proprietary-software, which may spy and control the investigators/attorneys digital evidence, preventing a guarantee to the attorney-client privileged information and evidence. Thus, he believes in and teaches about encryption for all attorneys and investigators via free-software cryptographic tools, such as: OpenSSH, LibreSSL, Bioctl, Signify, LUKS, OpenPGP, etc.
